What's Your Story?

As we approach the end of this week, we will come face to face with the reality of what was and what is to come. In this current political climate, we must admit that most Americans have very strong feelings about the current state of our country and the legacy and the person of our 44th President; while others have very strong feelings about the future of our nation and the upcoming inauguration of our 45th. Regardless of which side you happen to represent, at the conclusion of January 20, 2017, the inevitable result of this process is that our 44th President will have completed his term, and his legacy in office will have been written. As of this same historical date, the story of our 45th President will begin and will yet remain to be told.

If there is one thing that the last eight years have revealed to us, it is that others don’t write your history - you do. Regardless of what they do to hinder your progress, regardless of how they spin your efforts, and it matters not what tactics are used to attempt to stop your legacy; for at the end of the day, the only story that others are writing is their own.

If we will live with integrity of character, serve with compassion for others and remain steadfast in our beliefs, then history will tell our story. Whether it is a political story, a spiritual journey or a professional career; scripture reminds us through the prophet Isaiah that we will receive vindication (release of blame) from the Lord if we choose to live a life that refutes (invalidates) the claims.

Therefore, don’t forget, YOUR story is in YOUR hands.

Your story isn’t what someone said about you, your story is what you said in reply. Your story isn’t about who mistreated or discredited you, your story is how you responded to it. Isaiah also says in Chapter 3 “we will eat the fruit of our actions.”

Would you prefer to sup succulently upon your actions or to be forced to swallow the bitterness of your reactions?

The heritage of the servants of the Lord is that weapons forged against us will fail, but our required action is to shut down every accusatory tongue by proving it wrong or invalid. So, every ill word that was spoken was simply another opportunity to prove wrong the words of the adversary.

Remember, the best way to reverse the words designed to curse us is to live our life such that our actions alone will silence those who spew out the venom of condemnation and assassination.

Simplified, “when they go low, we go high” and we allow our actions to tell our story.

Isaiah 54:17 NIV

“No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me.” declares the Lord.
